Imagine sitting down to dinner with friends at a low, odd-shaped table—the room glowing with ancient oil lamps. The table is set with a sumptuous meal straight from the Bible. You’re at a feast served thousands of years ago. You pray in Hebrew. You eat with your hands. You practice meal customs and table manners from Abraham’s time to the Last Supper. What is a Galilean Wedding?

It’s the middle of the night. You’re startled awake by joyous shouting and a blast from a ram’s horn trumpet. The clamor grows as you rush to the window to see an approaching parade of noisy revelers with burning torches. A man crowned with laurel leaves leads the procession—and on a queenly litter carried above the revelers rides a veiled woman, splendidly adorned. The bridegroom has come for his bride and the village rejoices. There’s going to be a wedding…!

The Bible speaks of a day whose sheer joy, majesty and love will outshine all other days. It’s a day where no expression of Scripture proclaims more magnificently the affection of Jesus for His Bride, the Church—and His great longing for her. The incarnation, the cross, the resurrection and ascension all point straight to this one supreme future event—The Wedding Feast of the Lamb. Whenever Jesus spoke of this day He used imagery that His disciples understood—the customs of a simple Galilean wedding.
