Chaplaincy at Calvary Chapel Georgetown Divide

UnitWhy Chaplaincy? As we look forward to the glorious day of Christ, we await His return in a very fallen world. Jesus explained this to His disciples, telling them, "...in the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." But until He comes, crisis and trauma remain dreaded and inevitable visitors to everyone, everywhere. It was with this understanding that Chaplaincies were developed in America around the time of the revolutionary war, to provide spiritual and moral care to soldiers and government leaders.

Recently, chaplains have become integral participants in local law enforcement agencies and fire districts, working with first responders, victims, and entire communities that have been impacted by crisis. Unlike most ministers, chaplains are specifically trained to deal with the effect of traumatic events on both peace officers and civilians, including death notifications, crisis counseling, critical incident stress management, post-shooting trauma, suicide intervention and aftermath, school tragedies, and the like. Though chaplaincy programs serve a secular purpose (in the eyes of government agencies), they are also a bridge over which may be carried God's compassion and healing power into critical situations and traumatized lives, a place where most church ministers could not go.

Calvary Chapel Georgetown Divide, therefore, enthusiastically supports the ministry of Law Enforcement Chaplaincy by providing support, resources, and...chaplains. Pastors Jay McCarl and Jim Milne are both active in this vital ministry, Pastor Jim serving full-time as Deputy Senior Chaplain of Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, and Pastor Jay in a volunteer support capicity. Together, they have served as chaplains for more than twenty-seven years. Calvary Chapel also supports Deputy Senior Chaplain Jacob Cohen of Sierra Law Enforcement Chaplaincy in El Dorado County, California.

Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy serves the law enforcement agencies, officers, and communities of Auburn, Newcastle, Loomis, Rocklin, Roseville, Lincoln, Truckee, North Lake Tahoe, Placer County Sheriff Department, California State Parks and Recreation, California Highway Patrol, Special Investigations Unit, Placer County District Attorney's Office, Placer County Probation, and the FBI.

Sierra Law Enforcement Chaplaincy serves the law enforcement agencies, officers, and communities of Placerville, the Georgetown Divide, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs, El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Mt. Akum, the South Lake Tahoe Basin, El Dorado Sheriff Department, and the California Highway Patrol.
